Backstory

For a few years I’ve been casually taking photographs of trees from underneath them. It started in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina back on July 10, 2007 (Yeah, EXIF data is totally badass) while I waited for Alissa and Bradley to come out of the Chocolate shop. I was laying on the hood of the car and looking up into the palmettos and thought it would be an interesting abstract composition and started shooting.

I had been taking abstract photographs for almost twenty years but after I had done a few of these I found that there was something different going on, a feeling of mindfulness, a feeling of being in the moment, the one moment where I stopped and looked up into a tree and sky. So I keep doing them. I love the feeling I got from it so I started a Flickr group to encourage others to try it out. After a while I decided to create this website to showcase images from myself and others that I thought expressed the idea perfectly.

I hope you enjoy it.
